What is web 2.0

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

Via wait till I come!: a quick and concise video that explains (very well) what the whole Web 2.0 thing is about. It’s not just buzzwords for cool new stuff - it’s a mindset.

One of the best compliments I’ve ever gotten

Friday, October 6th, 2006

I don’t like to discuss my work on here too much (do I discuss anything much?) because I’d really rather not get dooced or anything. But I was having a conversation with my boss today about my annual review when he paid me one of the best compliments I’ve ever received.

He explained that my official review was being delayed because the people he reports to asked for details to explain all of the good things he had to say about me… when I asked him what he meant by details he said,

They want photographic evidence that you can actually walk on water.

I’m all sheepish now. Gosh, I think I’m blushing. I do bust my hump for that guy though. Glad he noticed.

Eclipse and Aptana rock my world

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

If it wasn’t for Shaw, this blog would be a log.

If ten people other than Shaw post a comment I will share a deep secret. And, no, they can’t be Shaw’s other personalities (no cheating).

On with the show…

So, I had posted about Aptana, a web development IDE for Ajax. Then, the alluring Catherine told me about Eclipse - the second beautiful woman in as many days to recommend that product. Well, I’m using both! I installed Eclipse at work, and then extended it with Aptana… so now I’ve got a super duper integrated web development thingamadingy. Eclipse is friggin’ awesome… mostly because it’s so flexible.

After I move (did I mention I’m moving to Nashua?) I’m going to throw out Dreamweaver and go whole-hog Eclipse.

That’s my story and I’m sticking with it.

New design

Sunday, August 6th, 2006

Ok, so I’ve committed to a layout. It’s still under development (the source is still shoddy and there are some bugs still) but I’ve decided to stick it up here because when stuff is live I feel more urgency to fix it. So, there it is. Well, here it is. If you stumble on this, let me know here… give me some feedback on the layout - I built the wp theme from scratch. And, yes, once I get to it those nav buttons up top will link somewhere - for now, they’re just there to remind me that I’ve got shit to do. The markup is a bit bloated still, but I wanted to get a general look. Also, I’ll be adding some stuff over the next couple of weeks - I want to do something fun with it. So, from here on in, this is a live redesign in progress.
So, whaddya think? Huh? Hmmm… Mork calling Orson, come in Orson.

Cool new web development IDE

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

I found aptana.tv through one of the feeds I read (sorry forget which one right now). But it looks pretty damned cool. Because I have it at home, I’ve been using Dreamweaver’s code view but I want something less bloated… you know, more code oriented. Seems that this one is pretty damned nice, lightweight, and intuitive. Wish it has built in FTP though… maybe it does - I’ll have to take another look. Anyway, I’m going to install this on my home system and give it a shot before using it at work. We shall see.
